FAQs

When is your beef available?

We have animals maturing from August to December and have abattoir and processing date pre-booked. We will find a time that works for both of us.

Can I pay by credit card?

We can accept only cheques or e-Transfers. If you are picking up your meat at the butcher, you can pay their processing fee by credit card. If we are delivering your beef, processing fees will be included on our invoice.

If I am picking my meat up from the butcher how does pricing work then?

For a side you will pay us $5.10/lb including the abattoir and inspection fees. Our butcher will charge $1.00/lb plus GST for processing, excluding extras like sausage, rouladen and minute steaks etc.

How much does a side of beef cost?

The price for sides (halves) and quarters is $6.15/lb based on the hanging weight. The hanging weight is the weight of a side of beef, hanging in the butcher’s cooler after the head, feet, and organs have been removed, but before it’s been dry aged and cut into steaks and roasts, etc. Hanging weights vary depending on the size of the animal, but a side of beef ‘on the hook’ generally averages about 325 pounds putting the cost of a side at roughly ~$1,950. A split side – a quarter of an animal by weight that includes a balance of cuts from the fore and hind quarters – will cost roughly ~$1000. Delivery, if required, is additional.

How much meat will I get?

A 300 lb side will yield roughly ~200 lbs of meat that will last in the freezer for a year or more. Again, sizes will vary, but the yield after butchering is usually around 60-65% of the hanging weight, depending on the cuts you select. Weight is lost to moisture during the aging process, and to bone and trim removed during the cutting process. For storage, you’ll need a medium sized chest or stand-up freezer.

Do you deliver and is there a fee?

For customers in the lower mainland and towns between Smithers and Surrey, we make two delivery trips in October with a maximum of 14 sides per trip. These trips typically sell out. There is a small delivery fee to cover our travel costs – see Delivery on Our Prices page.

For customers in Kitimat, Terrace and Rupert, we make one delivery trip in November. There is a small delivery fee to cover our travel costs – – see Delivery on Our Prices page.

Will our meat be delivered frozen?

We deliver your beef with a new 16-foot enclosed trailer that carries five large freezers. Your meat arrives frozen, packaged, and labelled. We can pack 14 sides of beef per trip.

Is a deposit always required?

No. Orders from first time customers are confirmed with a $200 deposit e-transfer. Orders from repeat customers are confirmed with their email.
